Helping A Family In Need

This past Thursday, my family and I had a moment that reminded us of the importance of helping others. As we were heading home, Kendra spotted a woman and her kids on the side of the road. She recognized them from a previous encounter she had with them last year with a group called “Spread the Love“ that passes out food to people in need and decided to turn around to check on them.

While Kendra talked to the family, I stayed in the car with our kids. I used the opportunity to remind them how fortunate we are and that our situation could always be worse.

When Kendra came back, she found a pair of our daughter’s shoes to give to one of the little girls, whose shoes were in very bad shape and asked if it would be okay to give them to and I agreed, and Kendra also asked if they had eaten. They hadn’t had a meal in hours, so I decided to buy them some food from Wendy’s nearby.

I thought of Matthew 25:40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”* This reminded me of why it’s so important to help out. I talked to the woman about Church and shared some of my own experiences, letting her know that God hasn’t forgotten her family.

The family is staying at Motel 6 off of Youngerman Circle and needs clothing, hygiene items, and food. They are looking for little girl clothes (sizes 3T to 10), little girl shoes, women’s clothes (medium/large), and men’s clothing for an older son (size 34-36). The hotel has been generous in allowing them to stay even when she can’t get the money.

The woman was thankful when I asked if I could share her story to get more help, and she even let Kendra take a picture. If you have any items to donate or want to help out, please let me know. Every little bit helps. If you are able to bring any clothing, hygiene, or food items to Church tomorrow, please do so.

We’re hoping they can come to Church tomorrow, or that Kendra can drop off the donations afterward. Thank you for your kindness and support!
